Tredegar cuts 15 jobs at Terre Haute plant

Howard Greninger, Tribune-Star

Tredegar Film Products on Tuesday said it has eliminated five positions and laid off 10 workers at its Terre Haute facility.

The company, at 3400 Fort Harrison Road, cited a change in its marketplace for the reduction.

“Over the last several months, our films business in Terre Haute has been evolving to respond to an ever-changing marketplace. Due to significant shifts in our business forecasts, we have been forced to make some staffing changes,” Neill Bellamy, director of investor relations and corporate communications for Tredegar, said in a statement for the company.

“As a result, the company has eliminated five positions and implemented a layoff of another 10 employees. We are working with those impacted by these actions to provide the support services they may need. It is our hope that we can recall some of these employees when the business climate changes,” Bellamy said.

The company, Bellamy said, is continuing with an expansion project started last year.

That project includes a 55,800-square foot building expansion, part of a $25 million project, that installs new elastic lamination machines as well as a warehouse expansion. That project was expected to add 28 hourly and six salary positions when completed later this year.

The company did not immediately respond to follow- up questions if there would be changes to expected future employment as part of that expansion.
