MUNCIE — A building that for years housed operations for a local printing business is set to be converted into apartments.
Barry Zachary, owner of the building at 424 S. Monroe St., told the Star Press that framing work has begun, and crews hope to start work on drywall in the next couple of weeks.
The building would hold a total of 14 apartments, with nine one-bedroom units, four two-bedroom units and a studio rental. Eight units would be on the second floor, while six units would be downstairs. Utilities would be included.
Most of the changes to the building will be in the interior, though new windows have been installed, as well as a new entry door on the Howard Street side.
Zachary, who runs B & L Drywall Company, plans to fill the rest of the 15,600-square-foot building with his office and warehouse space. He has owned the building for about four years.
The space previously held Precision Printing, which operated from 1969 to the early 2000s. In years prior, a baking company and a boat manufacturing firm also held that address, according to newspaper archives.
