This week, the City of Rushville made advancements in the Stellar Main Street Streetscape Project.

“So far this Stellar Project has seen new lighting installed south of 1st Street and new LED retrofit kits installed in existing lighting,” Director of Special Projects and Community Development Brian Sheehan said. “All of the decorative and memorial bricks have been pulled up and reset and a new decorative clock was installed across from the City Center.”

Bricks are also being added to the mid-block crossing between the Farmers Market and Willkie Park.

The project has led to parking closures on either side of Main Street 1st and 4th Streets at various times. Pedestrian access has been maintained except for the mid-block crossing where new sidewalks and pavers are being installed.

The next step of the Stellar Streetscape Project is the completion of the mid-block crossing and adding new benches, trashcans and planters, Sheehan said.

Work on the Stellar Project began in September of 2018.

The majority of the project will be completed by the end of February, Sheehan said. The entirety of the project will be completed by the end of March.

In 2016, Rushville was chosen as a Stellar Community along with Corydon. Stellar is designed to recognize Indiana’s smaller communities, which have formed comprehensive community and economic development projects and activities.
