MUNCIE — Ball State University has adopted a strategic plan that calls for a new type of college transcript; provides mentors to help every graduate carry out a lifelong learning plan; and rewards faculty/staff who connect their scholarship to the vibrancy of Muncie and East Central Indiana.

Those are just some of the three dozen "strategic imperatives" the university intends to execute by 2024. The plan includes something for everyone in Muncie and East Central Indiana.

Examples of other imperatives:

• every student completes at least one course in one of the following: undergraduate research; immersive learning; study abroad/away; focus on a societal issue or global challenge.

• implement a long-term plan to enhance the quality of place in The Village commercial/residential district bordering campus, to make it attractive to students, faculty, staff and the community.

• reward faculty who integrate their scholarship with their teaching.

Recently approved by the university's board of trustees, the strategic plan is titled, "Destination 2040: Our Flight Path," which is compatible with the new tagline, "We Fly."
