Fiberglass fabricator moves to Whitestown from Indianapolis

Gus Pearcy, Lebanon Reporter

Jake Hogue wasn’t even born when his grandfather became a pioneer in fiberglass. The year was 1978 and fiberglass was a very new compound. Now, WYN Industries is moving its fiberglass fabricating business to Whitestown with the help of the 504 Small Business Administration and First Internet Bank loan.

“We design and fabricate staircases, platforms, grating and handrails,” Hogue, WYN Industries owner, said. “Factories use it because it is lightweight, easier to handle than steel. It’s also as strong as steel.”

The company also manufactures, fabricates and installs fiberglass coatings and structural products for corrosive environments in the industrial market. The majority of WYN’s products are used in water treatment and wastewater facilities in Indiana. WYN’s fiberglass coatings protect against corrosion on metal surfaces such as stairs, rails and floors.

Hogue said the move to 6210 S. Indianapolis Road, will help the company expand and hire another 16 employees. The new space will give the company 8,000 sq. ft., to do more fabrication. That’s up from 1,300 sq. ft. at the old facility at 86th Street and Michigan Road in Indianapolis. The company acquired financing through a small business expansion loan from First Internet Bank and Indiana Statewide Certified Development Corporation to buy the building. The two loans are being backed through Small Business Administration’s 504 loan program.

Whitestown offers WYN easier access to the interstate, Hogue said.

“We knew Whitestown was the up-and-coming area,” Hogue said. “A lot of our customers are in Fort Wayne, Lafayette, South Bend, Chicago area.”

WYN stands for Whatever You Need. Hogue said it’s a unique name that sticks with customers.

“My father came up with the name,” Hogue said. “One of the customers said, ‘Hey, whatever you need. WYN.’”
