MUNCIE — A joint venture between an Indianapolis-based company and another in Mexico will bring up to 90 jobs to Muncie over the next several years, it was announced Wednesday.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. said at a press conference that Heritage Environmental Services out of Indianapolis and Zinc Nacional out of Monterrey, Mexico will use the former BorgWarner property for Waelz Sustainable Products LLP to produce zinc oxide and iron concentrate.
This won't be the companies' first facility. They currently operate a facility in Millport, Ala., and two others outside the United States.
Nigel Morrison president of Pizo Technologies, Heritage Environmental said that after looking at nearly 70 different sites, BorgWarner stood out because of the amenities and mindset of Muncie.
“These are industrial jobs and we will need the people who have heavy industry experience,” Morrison said. The plant will run a 24/7 production cycle to meet demand when fully operational.
The site location already has the power and infrastructure needed for the plant, including railroad access.
