CENTERVILLE —  Centerville has received an Indiana Main Street designation from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

The local effort originated with a group of Centerville business leaders and residents who formed an official 501(c)3 nonprofit, Main Street Centerville, several months ago, according to a release.

“We are incredibly pleased to be this far along in the lengthy process,” Main Street Centerville President Kyle Turner of Turner Insurance said in the release. “The designation will help us further our mission to enrich our town through economic development, redevelopment and beautification initiatives. Indiana Main Street has excellent strategies for improving small towns across thesState, some of which we have already put into practice.”

The Main Street Centerville committee led efforts on community festivals and beautification throughout 2018, the release stated. More than 30 volunteers have attended monthly meetings, and 16 currently serve on committees and focus on four key areas: Design, Organization, Promotion and Economic Vitality.
