More than 100 businesses and 300 volunteers helped United Way of Huntington County raise $580,000 for their 2018 campaign, which will be reinvested in the community.

The funding didn’t stop there.

At each table, there were eight 100 Grand Bars. Those candy bars symbolized the grand total of their campaign.

Five of the bars represented the money raised locally by volunteers, but the other three symbolized the ways in which the non-profit expanded their impact through grant matches and charitable donations to send United Way well above their goal, reaching $800,000 in total.

Matching dollars brought in $63,000, Parkview Huntington Hospital provided a $32,000 grant and the State of Indiana granted $123,000 to expand preschool capacity in the county.

At least 97 percent of those dollars will go directly back to programs throughout Huntington County.
