Facing bitter cold in the forecast early next week, the South Shore Line will provide temporary substitute bus service for two days.

Eastbound train 401 will be canceled on Monday and Tuesday, according to a South Shore Line news release.

The temperature on Monday will be a high of 15 degrees and low of 6 degrees and Tuesday will have a high of 21 degrees and low of 8 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

On Monday and Tuesday there will be a substitute bus service between South Bend and Michigan City Carroll Avenue for three morning trains. The buses will arrive and depart to match the regular train schedule.

Impacted trains will include eastbound train 403 and westbound trains 6 and 14. Regular train service between South Bend and Carroll Avenue is expected to resume with eastbound train 7 on both days, the news release said.

Train 6 and train 14 passengers should be prepared to board buses immediately north of the South Shore Line platform at the South Bend International Airport. Passengers will then board South Shore trains at Carroll Avenue. Train 403 passengers will exit the train at Carroll Avenue to board buses for the remainder of their travel, the news release said.

Service will be suspended to and from Hudson Lake while the substitute bus service is in effect. South Shore Line encourages Hudson Lake passengers to board at the Carroll Avenue Station for train service during this time.

Weather conditions will be re-evaluated before train 7 on both days to make sure that service can resume between South Bend and Carroll Avenue.
