The City of Crawfordsville has agreed to once again enter into a contract with HWC Engineering for the purpose of creating a winning Stellar Communities presentation.

The Board of Public Works & Safety approved the contract Wednesday at its regular weekly meeting.

The contract is divided into five tasks, including items like the Letter of Intent, which is due tomorrow, and the final application should Crawfordsville be shortlisted. Per the agreement, the City agrees to pay $2,500 a month for tasks 1-4 to be completed, ending with the Letter of Intent. HWC began working on the project on Dec. 19 and expects it will take six months to complete those tasks. If a final Stellar application is necessary, the City agrees to pay a $10,000 lump sum for HWC’s services.

“Their success rate has been very high in the past,” Crawfordsville Mayor Todd Barton said of HWC’s Stellar experience. “Our plan is in line with what other winning communities have done in the past.”

The Director of Community and Plannin Development said the contract with HWC was justified by the work already completed.

“I really can’t say enough about the job that they’ve done for us so far,” she said.

Also in the agreement is a sixth task should the City win the Stellar grant. Under this agreement, HWC will be kept on as the program manager for the Stellar Communities Projects. They will be charged at an hourly rate.
