Though the area has a stable unemployment rate, more and more job openings are becoming available in an array of employment — but some of the most-advertised positions may not be as easy to guess as you think.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development labor market report published last week detailed unemployment, job availability and applications sent for the month of August in the eight-county area.

Region 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, Daviess, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Orange and Owen counties, typically has the same list of most-advertised jobs, with a rotating top position. For many places, that includes farm workers and manufacturing jobs.

But lately, the most advertised job as been categorized as taxi drivers and chauffeurs.

Few listings for pure “taxi drivers” or “chauffeurs” were available in that time frame on Indiana Career Connect, job posting database by the Department of Workforce Development. But multiple delivery driving jobs are available across the entire region — specifically through DoorDash, in which drivers choose when to pick up and deliver food on their own time, and with Pizza Hut. In the past 60 days, 340 listings have been posted, representing 420 openings just in the eight-county area.

Representatives from the Department of Workforce Development did not comment by deadline.
