MICHIGAN CITY — With its annual campaign coming to a close this month, United Way of LaPorte County announced on March 21 that $900,000 was raised this year – falling just short of the lofty $1 million goal set in 2018 by campaign chair Tom Dermody.

“I set a high goal,” Dermody told a crowd of United Way supporters gathered at the STAR Center for the end-of-campaign celebration, saying that he knew this goal far exceeded the $600,000 raised last year.

Dermody thanked those who supported United Way through this campaign, saying, “There are good people that care about the community and want to make a difference. Now, when we walk the streets and see people in need we can say there is hope for you; there is support for you.”
