The Indiana State Department of Health on Friday reported 6,912 new COVID-19 cases, the 10th straight day that the state has reported more than 5,000 new cases.

Indiana has reported more than 4,000 new cases for 16 straight days and in excess of 2,000 for the past 30 days.

The state reported 63 new COVID-19 deaths on Friday, raising the cumulative total during the pandemic to 4,952. Indiana has reported 339 new deaths over the past week, an average of 48.4 per day. That’s up from 308 deaths the prior week, an average of 44 per day.

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in Indiana jumped to another all-time high of 3,077 on Thursday, up from 3,063 on Wednesday.

COVID-19 patients occupy nearly 42% of the state’s intensive care beds. The state said 21.6% of its ICU beds are unoccupied.

The department said the seven-day moving average for cases reached another all-time high of 6,562.

The department reported the testing of 21,757 more unique individuals. Testing of new individuals has exceeded 20,000 five times in the past seven days.

The state’s seven-day positivity rate for unique individuals dipped from 23.6% on Thursday to 23.5% on Friday. The seven-day positivity rate for all tests is at 12.1%.
