SOUTH BEND –– Yes, there’s a temporary layoff involving about 75 workers at the AM General commercial plant in Mishawaka starting Monday.

But it’s hard to call it bad news.
AM General is shutting down for both maintenance and retooling to produce

Vehicle Production Group’s new MV-1 LX, essentially a luxury model of the original.

The original MV-1, the first mobility vehicle produced from the ground up for wheelchair accessibility, has been produced by AM General for the Vehicle Production Group for about a year.
