Ball State president questions on what faculty calls 'deeply disturbing' salaries

Seth Slabaugh, Star Press

MUNCIE -- Ball State University faculty on Thursday called on President Jo Ann Gora to respond to The Star Press' recent report that BSU faculty salaries rank among the lowest in the nation and last in the Mid American Conference.

"I didn't realize how bad it was," urban planning professor Eric Kelly, chairman of the University Senate, said during the organization's last meeting of this academic year. "The data are deeply disturbing."

Kelly called a BSU spokeswoman's response to the newspaper "a lousy answer as far as we faculty are concerned -- that you are paying us poorly so that you can offer a cheap education to make lawmakers happy. I think we deserve a better response."
