Four Lafayette tax abatement requests point to growth

Ron Wilkins, Journal and Courier

Requests for tax abatements sprouted like spring flowers Thursday at the Lafayette Redevelopment Commission, indicating that development is thriving here.

Four projects received the commission's nod for tax abatements, which still require approval from the Lafayette City Council.

Three of the abatements are related to investments that will create an estimated 144 new jobs at Wabash National Corp., Rea Magnet Wire Co. and Alcoa. The fourth will provide added incentive to Heartland Automotive, a parts manufacturer, to build and later expand a permanent facility in Tippecanoe County.
