A recent report by the Indiana Department of Child Services shows there were 25 cases of substantiated abuse or neglect child fatalities in the state during fiscal year 2010, showing a continuing downward trend of such deaths over the past few years.

Of the 25 deaths in 2010, 18 were caused by weapons. The rest were caused by such things as burns, electrocution, drowning and malnutrition. Monroe County had two child fatalities resulting from abuse or neglect in 2010, bringing its total to seven from 2003 through 2010.
