Wabash City Schools cut 2 1/2 positions

Justine Fansher, Wabash Plain Dealer

Due to the financial reductions in Wabash City Schools' general fund budget, two and a half classified positions will be eliminated effective March 31.

The board approved the elimination of a full time central office secretary, a full time second shift custodial position at Wabash Middle School, and a part time second shift custodial position at W.C. Mills Elementary School, at its Monday meeting.

"All two and a half positions were in our reduction plan previously discussed," Jason Callahan, superintendent of Wabash City Schools, said to the board.

In addition, a severance package was approved for the two full time employees upon their separation from WCS. Callahan said in their last check from WCS, each employee will be paid $30 per day for all unused sick leave, vacation days and personal days, as well as $75 a year for every year of service with WCS.

Board members expressed their sorrow for the situation, but said they're pleased WCS is able to offer a severance package to the two individuals.
