Measure targets hotel-motel tax split for St. Joseph County

Erin Blasko, South Bend Tribune Staff Writer

SOUTH BEND - A bill pending in the Indiana General Assembly would strip the local Hotel-Motel Tax Board of its fiscal authority and allow Mishawaka to keep its share of hotel-motel tax revenue.

Introduced by Rep. Craig Fry, D-Mishawaka, House Bill 1366 would
require the county treasurer to deposit hotel-motel taxes into the
appropriate general fund depending on where the taxes are collected — South Bend, Mishawaka or the county.

For example, taxes collected in South Bend would go into South Bend’s general fund, taxes collected in Mishawaka would go into its general fund, and so on.
