I&M plans $48 million power grid update in Madison, Delaware counties

Herald Bulletin

MUNCIE – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M), an American Electric Power company, plans to invest about $48 million to improve the electric transmission system in East Central Indiana, according to a press release.

The Muncie-Anderson Transmission Line Rebuild Project is needed to ensure reliable energy service is available to customers by reducing power outages and speeding recovery of service when outages do occur. The project includes rebuilding about 21 miles of transmission line and retiring about 7 miles of existing line.

According to the press release, while a majority of the 21-mile long transmission line will be rebuilt where it’s currently located, existing easements will be updated and supplemented.

Construction is expected to start in the fall of 2018 and to be completed by the spring of 2020.

Residents can learn more about the project at a come-and-go open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Yorktown High School, 110 S. Tiger Drive.

Attendees can arrive at any time to review maps and speak with company representatives.
